Concrete for Huron Township's Open Lots
Huron Charter Township is the most rural place in our service area, about 35.8 square miles in southwestern Wayne County. Its homes are spread across farm lots, river properties and small subdivisions around New Boston. Homeowners who call concrete contractors in Huron Township often need bigger pours: long driveways, garage floors, pole barn slabs and patios on open land. The township had 16,944 residents in 2020, up from 13,737 in 2000. We pour driveways, patios and stamped concrete, walks and steps, garage and outbuilding slabs, and repair worn concrete.
An original township
Huron Township was organized in 1827 and once took in what is now Romulus, Belleville, Van Buren Township and Sumpter Township. Romulus split off on March 17, 1835, Van Buren on April 6, 1835, and Sumpter in 1840, which set today's lines. A settlement on the Huron River got a post office called Catville in 1860, renamed New Boston by 1868. Waltz was platted in 1872 by Joseph Waltz, and Belden, platted in 1857, is now Willow.
Big slabs on open ground
Many Huron Township properties have room for a detached garage, workshop or pole barn, and those buildings need a good floor. A large slab carries a lot of weight, so we start with the base: strip the topsoil, place aggregate in compacted lifts and plan the thickness and reinforcement for what the building will hold, whether that is a truck, a tractor, a boat or a workshop. We cut control joints on a planned grid so the slab cracks in straight lines where we want it to.
Long driveways are just as common here. Many start as gravel. Converting to concrete means removing loose stone, regrading so water runs off to the sides, and pouring a drive that meets the road at the right grade.
River and parkland
The Huron River flows southeast through the township, which takes its name from the river. Three divisions of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks are here: Lower Huron, Oakwoods and Willow. The Waltz Road Huron River Bridge, first built in 1924 and replaced in 2017, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Homes near the river sit on lower, wetter ground, where patios and walks need a deeper base and careful drainage.
Easy freeway access
I-275 runs north to south through the center of the township, with exits at Will Carleton, South Huron and Sibley roads, which makes concrete delivery straightforward to most addresses.
